Greetings to the worthy readers!

In this blog, I will share my experience of GirlScript Contributor’s Meet 2020 and some other programs with GS.

I came to know about GirlScript Foundation, from their Open Source Initiative, GSSoC’20. Being an Open Source Contributor I was very much excited for this program. I applied as an organizing member and mentor. Fortunately, got selected for both the positions on the basis of my past experience :D

It was the month of January I came across a post that says “Apply for GirlScript Contributor’s Meet 2020” on social media.

Having worked for Open Source Programs of GirlScript before, I thought of applying for this which is very much like Travel Grants scholarships for those people who have worked with full dedication and commitment for the organisation :D

The aim of the meet was to brainstorm about future events at the organisation.

Benefits Of Getting Shortlisted for GirlScript Contributors’s Meet

  1. Opportunity to meet finest tech and non-tech people from across India
  2. An honour for your contributions for the community
  3. Complete flight, food and accommodation covered by the org like a travel grant scholarship
  4. Success Party after continuous work
  5. Brainstorming the future roles, position and responsibility
  6. Too much fun and celebration with team

Day 0

The team from Delhi and Jalandhar met at Indira Gandhi Airport, New Delhi to start the lovely journey. Some teams from Jammu, Banglore, Chennai, Punjab, Gujrat, Odisha, Bihar and other states reached at the event a day or two day before.

Delhi Airport->Nagpur Airport

Day 1

The contributor’s meet started on 14 March with Welcome Gifts, shwags and snacks. The guest for Inaugration Ceremony was Kunal Padole, Founder Secretary — ECPA and YUVA foundation. Then brainstorming and presentation was followed by lunch and extra fun activities like TT, Carrom and Talent Show.

The speech by the guest and founder of GS was really very motivating. The lines of their speech that touched my heart were “We build an organisation using those bricks that were thrown on us 1 year back and now we are leading tech community in India”, “90% work and 10% luck is how the whole world survives”.

Bonfire, Talent Shows and DJ Pool Party

On Day1, after evening snacks we enjoyed the talents shows and DJ pool party with the team from all parts of India.

For better team involvement, several team games were organised. From playing VolleyBall to Swimming Competitions we enjoyed a lot. In this short journey of 2 days I made many new friends who were from different parts of the country. It was really very exciting to listen to their language, culture.

Day 2

Day 2 was even more interesting! We all did a lot of group discussions in different groups. We did group activities and few more talent shows. Representative of each state, region came up with some new ideas for the entire team.

After the Contributor’s Meet I got some really good opportunities from the organisation. Like I am now Project Lead Intern for one of my most favourite project Skill Development for Unprivileged. For now this project is only for Delhi, India but we are continuosly working to increase the reach of this project to all parts of the country.

Programs of GS that are my Personal Favourite

  1. GirlScript Summer Of Code
  2. Contributors Meet
  3. LetsPy
  4. GirlScript India Summit
  5. CodePreneur Week
  6. Projects to support Education of Unprivileged Children

The beauty of the community is that it celebrates the success of all it’s members together. Be it the success of the Founder of the Organisation or any of it’s employee.

Let’s join our hands together to support #EducationFirst📚👩🏻‍💻 mission of GirlScript, and make it the last time any child is deprived of Education, basic right of all human beings.
